Marine Tips & Tactics

  • The Solider can attack both air and ground units.

  • Soldiers are cheap to create, which is great, because they are also easy to kill.

  • Soldier units are more powerful with adequate support, like Hellions, Siege Tanks, Marauders or Medivacs.

  • Soldiers are excellent at holding high ground fending off enemy incursions through choke-points.

  • Soldiers can enter bunkers for additional protection and a minor increase in range.

  • Soldiers are vulnerable against splash damage.

Marine Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Powerful Against: Marauder, Hydralisk, Immortal

  • Weakest Against: Siege Tank, Baneling, Colossus

Race Strategies Versus Marine

Terran

  • Have an adequate supply of bunkers positioned at good strategic points near your base to stop an oncoming rush of Marines.

  • Hellions are especially effective at taking down marines.

  • Place a few tanks in and around your base; place them in Siege mode once you have it researched.

Zerg

  • Roaches are especially good at killing Marines.

  • Surround your Metabolic Boost with tons of Zerglings.

  • Flank rushing Marines with Banelings.

  • Ultralisks and Brood Lords offer great counter-attacks to a Marine invasion.

Protoss

  • Surround incoming Marines with Zealots, unleashing a Charge for maximum damage.

  • Build several Sentries and use Guardian Shield for protection.

  • Use Force Field on your Sentry to split-up enemy Marines, blocking off their retreat.

  • The Colossus is especially cruel to Marines, as is the Psionic Storm ability of the High Templar.

  • Use Tanks is Siege Mode to eradicate incoming Thors.

  • Use Cloaked Banshees for sneak-attacks.

  • Use an army of Marauders to strike against an incoming Thor, supported by Stimpacks and several Medivacs.

  • Use the Yamato Cannon of your Battlecruiser against Thors.

Zerg

  • Approach Thors from several directions with masses of smaller units.

  • Research Grooved Spines, Tunneling Claws and Metabolic Boost.

  • Roaches and Hydralisks should be supported by Zerglings.

  • Take command of a Thor by using an Infestor's neural parasite.

Protoss

  • Immortals eat Thors for lunch, thanks to their Hardened Shields and bonus damage against hardened targets.

  • Surround Thors with Zealots and Dark Templars. Use the Charge upgrade on Thors, making sure not to attack-move, else your units will attack Thor support.

  • Use the Feedback ability of a High Templar, draining the energy of the Thor and negating its 250mm Strike Cannons.

  • Void Rays are a good back-up plan.

Viking Tips & Tactics

  • Moves slow, but dual-use as an air or ground unit makes up for the movement.

  • Take advantage of unguarded bases by going into ground mode, striking buildings and/or enemy units, followed by a swift exit.

  • Cover the skies while in Fighter Mode and expose the locations of Overlords, Colossi and other air-based enemies.

  • If you have access to air superiority, then you can use Assault Mode to support needy ground-troops.

  • Use caution when switching modes, as you will be exposed for 3-seconds, making you a sitting duck for an approaching enemy.

Viking Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Powerful Against: Battlecruiser, Corrupter, Void Ray

  • Weakest Against: Marine, Mutalisk, Stalker

Race Strategies Versus Viking

Terran

  • Station Missile Turrets around you base so they have good coverage.

  • Use Marauders and Siege Tanks against incoming Assault Mode Vikings.

  • Station Auto-Turrets with your Ravens.

  • If you are using a Viking, use Point Defense Drones for a little extra support.

  • M arines high on Stimpacks are pretty good at taking down Vikings in Fighter Mode. They can take down Vikings in Assault Mode if they have Medivac support.

Zerg

  • Use your Queen along with strategically-placed spore colonies.

  • Ensure your Overlords are protected by defensive, or anti-air units.

  • Research Grooved Spines for the Hydralisks.

  • When a Viking uses Assault Mode, surround him with Roaches or Zerglings.

Protoss

  • Protect your mineral trail with several Photon Cannons.

  • Research Blink for your Stalkers. Since the Viking moves so slow, Blink can be especially useful.

  • Use Archons.

  • Cast Psionic Storm.

  • If using Marauders or Marines, make sure to use your Stimpacks often, as the Medivac's healing power will increase the rate of use.

  • Use the Hotkey (M) and then click on an infantry unit to have your Medivac follow its path.

Tech Lab Upgrades

  • Caduceus Reactor: Starting energy of all Medivacs increased by 25.

Race Strategies Versus Medivac

Terran

  • Prevent surprise Medivac drops by placing Missile Turrets at strategic locations around your base.

  • Medivacs can be hammered by Vikings.

Zerg

  • Place Spore Colonies at strategic locations around your base, making it more difficult for a Medivac to unload units.

  • Use Spine Crawlers at likely Medivac drop locations.

  • Use Mutalisks against Medivacs.

  • Research Grooved Spines for your Hydralisks.

Protoss

  • Protect your mineral line with several Plasma Cannons.

  • Research Blink for your Stalkers and focus fire on Medivacs. Use Blink when the Medivac attempts a retreat.

  • Use your High Templar's Feedback skill to drain Medivac energy.

  • If a Medivac drops off ground units, use your Psionic Storm to mop 'em up.

  • Use Phoenixes and/or Void Rays to hassle Medivacs.
